What’s your background?
I was born and educated in the former Yugoslavia. I specialized in molecular and cell biology for my undergraduate studies and finished my doctoral studies through the cooperation of the University of Belgrade and Roswell Park Institute in Buffalo. I finished two postdoctoral fellowships prior to coming to Toronto, where I focused on pediatric oncology.

Why science?
I love biology for the dynamics and challenges that it presents. I like to believe that the work I do as a researcher is important and helps in some small way to make the world a better place.
Do you have any advice for someone interested in a career in research?
You have to love science and understand that the biggest reward is the miracle of discovery.

What do you like to do for leisure?
I love to read and collect books. I love to cook for family and friends. I enjoy children’s company very much and am always ready to babysit.

Any song or book recommendations?
There are many; I very much enjoy short stories and some of the true masters would include Hemingway and Chekov.
If someone were to make a movie about your life, what would the title be?
Life is Beautiful (The only thing is, that title has been already taken and the movie is amazing.)
