What’s your background?

I grew up in Toronto and studied biochemistry at McMaster.  I went abroad for medical school and did residency in the US before returning to Toronto for a pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship.  I am currently gaining invaluable experience as a clinical research lab in the Tabori and Hawkins lab.

Why science?

The field of pediatric hematology/oncology has undergone an incredible evolution in the past decade and molecular alterations have now been recognized to be crucial for understanding prognosis and developing new treatment approaches.  This research fellowship is giving me first-hand knowledge of these techniques while contributing to the understanding of brain tumors in adolescents and young adults.

Do you have any advice for someone interested in a career in research?

Get experience as an undergraduate if possible.

What do you like to do for leisure?

I enjoy spending time with my family, baking with my kids and spending time outside.

Any song or book recommendations?
I enjoy reading historical fiction, anything by David Sedaris and biographies.
