What’s your background?

I grew up in Waterloo, Ontario, where I also completed my undergraduate degree in biochemistry. I then went on to complete my master’s degree at McMaster in their medical sciences graduate program, and now I am here at UofT!

Why science?

Ever since my high school science classes I often found myself asking “why?”. I have always had an insatiable curiosity as to why our bodies work the way they do and why cells go rogue.  My passion for science is fueled by my desire to answer these questions on a molecular level and make interesting discoveries along the way.

Do you have any advice for someone interested in a career in research?

Get involved and always remember that failure leads to success. The earlier you start building up your research experience the better! There are so many opportunities available, whether it be through a volunteer position, co-op job or thesis project, you have to put yourself out there and see what branch of research you enjoy most.

What do you like to do for leisure?

In my spare time you can find me exploring a new cozy café, sipping on an iced coffee. I also love acrylic and oil painting, videography and going on long bike rides.

Any song or book recommendations?

Books – The immortal life of Henrietta Lacks, The Kite Runner, A thousand Splendid Suns
Song – Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Re

If someone were to make a movie about your life, what would the title be?

The Cool Cat Lady
